EDMONTON, Alberta -- Michael Grabner is coming up big for the New York Rangers.Grabner scored twice, Antti Raanta stopped 38 shots, and the Rangers beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 Sunday night. After signing with the Rangers during the offseason, Grabner now has 10 goals in 16 games to eclipse the nine he scored in 80 games with Toronto last year.Im just trying to go out there and play my role, he said. Its just been going good from the start, from the first game on. I think thats a big part of hockey, when you get confidence, it seems to be going out there and not thinking and good things happen.Dan Girardi also scored to help the Rangers win for the seventh time in eight games -- including two victories against the Oilers.I thought we came out real well, moved the puck, got some quality opportunities and scored a couple of goals, New York coach Alain Vigneault said. After that, there was no doubt they had a real strong push and I thought for the most part our goaltender made some big saves and our guys battled through back-to-back games.Andrej Sekera scored for Edmonton and Cam Talbot finished with 24 saves. The Oilers have lost three straight to fall to 2-5-1 since starting the season 7-1-0.That confidence and swagger we had in the first eight games seems to get away from us a little bit, Oilers forward Milan Lucic said. We havent had it in the last eight games.Things arent always going to go smoothly. We have to stick together as a team and go back to having fun playing the right way.Grabner got New York on the scoreboard just 1:20 in, getting to a big rebound and scoring his ninth of the season. It was the fifth time in seven games the Oilers allowed a goal in the first two minutes.Girardi made it 2-0 with 6:42 left in the first as the Rangers had an extra attacker on for a delayed penalty and the defenseman redirected Kevin Hayes pass past Talbot from in front of the net.Edmonton pulled within one with 1:15 left in the opening period when Connor McDavid spotted a pinching Sekera swooping past the Rangers net and he deflected a shot past Raanta.Grabner scored again with five minutes left in the second when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gave up the puck at the New York blue line. Talbot made the initial stop, but Grabner was able to swat in the rebound.Edmonton had good pressure in the third period, but Raanta shut the door.We had a lot of players missing in action, Oilers coach Todd McLellan said.Game notes It was the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams. Hawthorn great Brad Sewell has challenged the Hawks ageing stars to aim up after anointing Greater Western Sydney as the 2017 AFL flag favourites. While Sewell expects the youthful Giants to revel in their newfound status as the team to beat, the dual premiership winner admits hes unsure if the Hawks have reached an end of a golden era following the sides week-two finals exit in 2016.We really dont know, he told AAP on Wednesday as the Hawks look to also recover from the defection of former captain and Brownlow Medallist Sam Mitchell to West Coast and fellow influential midfielder Jordan Lewis to Melbourne.Theres so much unknown in this side for probably for the first time in almost a decade in that theyve lost a couple of their stars. But at the same time theyve brought in some genuine talent that has the potential to really catapult the side and get them rebounding off losing a couple of their stars.Sewell is excited by the arrival of Tom Mitchell from Sydney, especially after the young guns outstanding season for the Swans, and Jaeger OMeara from Gold Coast. The concerns will be, as they have been for the last three or four years, is that it is an ageing side, he said. But the exciting thing is that Clarko (coach Alistair Clarkson) has always been able to regenerate the talent within the team.Theres great depth and we all know the sides always had a fantastic cculture.ddddddddddddThe two guys theyve brought in are both, if not genuine A graders, then very close to it and will play for the next 10 years for the club.Sewell, who retired at just 30 after Hawthorns triumphant 2014 season - the second of the clubs three straight premierships - suspects Hawthorns veterans will be stinging after having their grand final streak broken this year. But he has a word of warning too.Theyre such a proud club of course, he said. And because there is such internal competition within the team - and there has been for a number of years - it just means that these young guys are going to keep pushing up.If the older boys arent pulling their weight and playing to their level, theyll get spat out.Sewell believes the Giants, who fell a goal shy of a grand final berth in 2016, are deserving new title favourites after Hawthorns long run as perennial pre-season flag fancies.I mean, to play as well as they did last year and theyre still so young and theyre still so young in their list, he said.Their potential for the next couple of years is huge.I get the impression theyre the type of side that are going to enjoy being the hunted. Theyre a young, brash team that seem to enjoy the confrontation and like the attention. cheap falcons jerseyscheap ravens jerseyscheap bills jerseyscheap bears jerseyscheap bengals jerseyscheap cowboys jerseyscheap lions jerseyscheap texans jerseyscheap colts jerseyscheap jaguars jerseyscheap chiefs jerseyscheap rams jerseyscheap dolphins jerseyscheap vikings jerseyscheap saints jerseyscheap giants jerseyscheap jets jerseyscheap eagles jerseyscheap steelers jerseyscheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '
