OAKLAND, Calif. -- Itll be Olympic reunion night at Oracle Arena on Thursday when the New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony and three of his teammates from the 2016 gold-medal winner, all members of the Golden State Warriors, get together for the first time since Rio.The evening will tip off before the tip-off with Warriors stars Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson getting Olympic championship rings in a ceremony featuring Warriors executive board member Jerry West, a former gold medalist himself, and USA Basketball Mens National Team Director Sean Ford.Durant, who signed with the Warriors only about a month before leaving for Rio, led the Americans with a 19.4 scoring average in their eight straight wins.Durant totaled 155 points in Rio, the second-most ever for an American behind his own 156 in the 2012 London Games, bringing his Olympic career total to 311.Only one American has a higher career total, and, fittingly, he will be on hand to witness the ceremony Thursday. Anthony is the all-time Olympic scoring leader among Americans with 336.Anthony has been anything but Olympic-caliber in the first three games of the Knicks five-stop trip. Hes shot just 16-for-53 from the field and 3-for-16 on 3s, although 24 free throws has helped him compile a respectable 19.7 scoring average. The Knicks won two of the three games -- at Sacramento and Los Angeles (Lakers) -- before suffering a 113-111 overtime loss at Phoenix on Tuesday.New York had won four straight on the road and six of seven overall before the loss to the Suns. They didnt have point guard Derrick Rose for the second half at Phoenix after his ailing back, which forced him to sit out two games last week, flared up on him again.Rose is questionable for Thursdays game.Leading the way of late for the Knicks has been Kristaps Porzingis, who recorded double-doubles in the two trip-opening wins, equaled his career high with seven blocks against the Lakers, and was one off his career best in scoring with 34 points against the Suns. The second-year pro came on strong late in the Phoenix game after having gotten thrown to the floor by Suns rookie Marquese Chriss in a third-quarter altercation. He needed it, Anthony told reporters after the game of Porzingis wake-up call. Sometimes people try to take advantage of his kindness, and I thought it was getting a little bit too much out there for him, and he reacted. We had his back.Porzingis might expect more of the same Thursday night from the Warriors enforcer, Green. He is coming off a dramatic confrontation with New Orleans star Anthony Davis in the final seconds of Tuesdays 113-109 road win. With the Warriors clinging to a two-point lead, Green stripped the ball from Davis as he attempted what could have been a game-tying shot.Hes one-on-one against anybody, Ill take Draymond any day, Warriors coach Steve Kerr gushed to reporters after the win. Hes a nasty defender.A bit too nasty, the NBA observed Wednesday. The league admitted Green should have been called for a foul on the game-saving play, claiming he illegally had two hands on Davis back before making his clean swipe. Patrick Mekari Jersey . TORONTO -- The rivalry between Sweden and Finland is a strange one.Generally, players from the rival nations respect each other. In many cases, Swedes and Finns are teammates on their respective NHL teams. But in the case of international competition, theres a no-holds-barred mentality. Even in the two World Cup of Hockey preseason games it was a heated battle. It will be on display once again when the two face off in the best-on-best tournament on Tuesday (3 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Air Canada Centre. In no way should this game be described as an undercard for U.S. and Canada. If anything, it rivals that big battle.I dont know how big the U.S.-Canada [rivalry] is, but I think its very similar between Finland-Sweden, said legendary Finnish player Teemu Selanne. Obviously, theres a lot of respect between us, and Sweden is always tough to beat. We feel like they are older brothers, and the younger brothers always want to beat the older brothers, so thats how it usually has been. I think we are even a little jealous about how great a sports country it is in every sport. I think we try to follow them and beat them. Its a great rivalry because theres so much respect, and I think we want to beat them more than they want to beat us. I think they have more rivalry with Norway generally in sports.Team North America, the roster loaded with talented 23-and-under players, dismantled Finland in its first game. If Finland cant respond against its rival, it will be a short tournament. We didnt play very well the first game, and [Tuesday] is pretty much do-or-die game, and if you cant get ready against Sweden, I dont know if youre ever going to be ready, Selanne said.In past tournaments, Sweden has held the upper hand. In the Olympics, Sweden owns a 5-2-3 record over Finland. In the World Cup of Hockey/Canada Cup, Sweden is 3-2-1. Its a rivalry that all the current players on both rosters learned about at a young age, and once they pull on that sweater for their respective team, its all about pride. Those are the games people in Sweden remember, Swedish forward Carl Hagelin said. Theyre bigger than any NHL game. For the fans back home, you want to make sure youre giving them everything they want, and thats a win. It doesnt matter what it looks like out there, you just want to get the two points. Its definitely a lot of fun. I just remember growing up from 55 years old and watching the World Championship, and Sweden against Finland was always big games, always medal games, whether it was the final game or the bronze game.dddddddddddd You could just sense that every single player on the ice wanted to, not kill the other guys, but they wanted to go out and battle as hard as they could. It was exciting games and anything could happen. This is a different Finnish team than Sweden is used to playing. Finland is younger and Selanne, Saku Koivu and Sami Salo are not walking into that locker room. The term bad blood is commonly used when players from Team USA and Team Canada describe the rivalry. Its different for Sweden and Finland. These players think of it as a history book for hockey.Sweden goalie Henrik Lundqvist has won Olympic gold (2006) and silver (2014) and wants to win this tournament too, especially since this could be his last international gig. What makes rivalries special is the history, Lundqvist said. You look at all the special games youve played against each other and thats why U.S.-Canada is very special. Going back, theyve had a lot of memorable games, and thats the case with Sweden and Finland as well. But in the end, its still the same game and you dont want to complicate it, or make it bigger than it is, you just try to go out there and be very focused on your own performance and try to do as well as you can.During the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Finland goalie Tuukka Rask missed the semifinal game against Sweden because he was sick. Finland lost that game 2-1, and backup netminder Kari Lehtonen finished with 23 saves. Rask returned for the bronze-medal game and led the team to victory over the U.S. But it was that missed game against Sweden that haunts him to this day, and hes hoping to get the nod Tuesday.Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely, he said. As a goalie, as an athlete, you thrive on important games in important situations. You want to perform at a high level when its really needed. Its against Sweden, so its a big thing back home. Its a big game for our team and you dont want to look back at whats happened before. We have to focus on the moment, and tomorrows against Sweden; if I play Ill just try to be at my best and feel good about myself. ' ' '
