Hot on a 15-game winning streak, the Cronulla Sharks are creating history. But for Chris Heighington, it might all just be a little bit of history repeating for the premiership-winning forward.Heighington played a vital role in the Wests Tigers magical run to a fairytale premiership in 2005. Given no hope of even making the finals, the Tigers were one of the greatest and most endearing Cinderella stories in sporting fable, as they embarked on an unlikely eight-game win streak before their unforgettable grand final win.For Heighington, there is a striking resemblance to that Tigers premiership side and his current team at the top of the NRL ladder that is desperate to finally break their maiden-premiership drought.I definitely (see the similarities) with the youth in the team, Heighington told ESPN.Back in 2005 at the Tigers, we had Robbie (Farah), Benji (Marshall), Liam (Fulton), Bryce Gibbs and myself. We had a lot of young guys and a few senior guys.[We were] obviously winning a few in a row and being confident. With the Tigers we hit the finals series on fire and then beat the Cowboys by 50-6 in the first week of the finals. Were not quite there with the Sharks yet. Weve still got six games to go but theres definitely the same sort of confidence within the team as there was with the Tigers.Theres been strong suggestions that Cronulla need a loss before the finals. Heighington himself knows from experience what a loss could mean for the Sharks.[At the Tigers in 2005], we won eight in a row and then we lost the final two games of the regular season, Heighington said.We actually lost a bit of confidence in those losses. We lost our way a bit and we were soul searching in the early part of the week going into the first week of the finals against North Queensland. It wasnt ideal losing those two games but it brought us back a bit and probably simplified our game a little bit, and we ended up coming away with another four wins to win the premiership. In saying that, to be honest, I dont think you have to lose a game along the way. Like who says you have to lose one? Who says you have to win them all? We can do whatever we want.If we make the Grand Final, then we make the Grand Final but were definitely not going to try drop a game or anything like that. Were just going to keep doing our thing to win every game. While theyre in the midst of potentially breaking the longest win streak since the Roosters 19-game haul in 1975, the Sharks are doing their best not to pay attention to it and focus on their upcoming opponent. We try not to, we dont really talk about it, Heighington said. We just try to get everything done and preparations to put in our best performance we can possibly put in. If it happens not to work out against the Titans, what can you do? But were definitely ticking every box possible to keep winning games.Along with Luke Lewis and James Maloney, Heighington isnt the only player who is desperate to repeat his grand final success and share the glory with a yearning fanbase craving its long-coveted first premiership. You try not to think about it (the fanbase) too much, Heighington said. Back in 2005, it all happened so quickly. I was so young at the time. Three games into a finals series and then were in the grand final and won it. You definitely want to do it for the fans and theyve been enjoying coming to watch us play and weve been enjoying playing in front of them. Youd love to get the job done for the fans. For the Cronulla Shire, theyre hoping its déjà vu for Heighington. Tony Kemp Jersey . But what about the officials?
