xpectations of replacing a living legend – and how these expectations led to his eventual exit from Edmonton only a year after T Antworten

TSNs award-winning news team rewinds to August 9, 1988 and captures unique stories surrounding Wayne Gretzkys blockbuster trade from Edmonton to Los Angeles with SPORTSCENTRE PRESENTS: THE TRADE AT 25. TSNs week-long series marks the 25th anniversary of The Trade that captivated a nation with five compelling features examining its social, cultural, and economic impact (see below for details). In addition to features led by respected sports journalists Michael Farber and Dave Naylor, SPORTSCENTRE PRESENTS: THE TRADE AT 25 also includes an original mash-up by DJ Steve Porter. A new feature will premiere daily from August 5-9 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of SPORTSCENTRE. All features will also be available on demand at TSN.ca. "We set out to create a different look at the Gretzky trade after 25 years and uncover unique stories," said Ken Volden, Vice-President and Executive Producer, News and Studio Production, TSN. "Between the celebrity factor, rumours, and emotion, The Trade was bigger than sports and made for a great palette for our producers to draw some great stories." SPORTSCENTRE PRESENTS: THE TRADE AT 25 includes the following features: GRETZKYS CHILDREN • Premieres: Monday, Aug. 5 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of SPORTSCENTRE• Hosted by: Michael Farber • Synopsis: Wayne Gretzkys trade to Los Angeles triggered expansion across the American Sunbelt. NHL franchises in non-traditional markets created youth development programs to help foster interest in the game. Twenty-five years later, some of those athletes are making an impact at the highest levels of sport, including Anaheim Ducks forward Emerson Etem and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Beau Bennett – both ex-roller hockey players from southern California.• Quote: "Hes helped and he doesnt even realize it…I think Beau [Bennett] can say the same thing. If it wasnt for Gretzky…maybe we wouldve been playing football – anything really couldve happened. I love the game of hockey and I wouldnt want it any other way." – Emerson Etem, Anaheim Ducks forward THE GRETZKY GOLD RUSH • Premieres: Tuesday, Aug. 6 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of SPORTSCENTRE• Hosted by: Dave Naylor• Synopsis: The Wayne Gretzky trade had an impact on hockey business well beyond Los Angeles and Edmonton. When Kings owner Bruce McNall ripped up Gretzkys Oilers contract to hand him a series of massive pay hikes, it helped send hockeys pay scale skyward and changed the business of the game forever.• Quote: "I remember clearly a lot of players thinking wow, Waynes going to get over a million dollars…it was over two million…everyone said what? I mean he helped every single player…because his contract was double what everyone was expecting." – Luc Robitaille, NHL Hall of Fame player and former teammate of Wayne Gretzky THE KID IN THE SHADOW• Premieres: Wednesday, Aug. 7 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of SPORTSCENTRE• Hosted by: Dave Naylor • Synopsis: This is the story of Jimmy Carson, the American-born player traded into a tight knit Oilers locker room as part of the Gretzky trade. THE KID IN THE SHADOW examines how Carson coped with living up to the unattainable expectations of replacing a living legend – and how these expectations led to his eventual exit from Edmonton only a year after The Trade. • Quote: "It was a situation where I was the symbol of the angst of why the hell did we just get rid of Wayne Gretzky? Arguably the greatest player of all time…" – Jimmy Carson DJ STEVE PORTER: "I PROMISED MESS"• Premieres: Thursday, Aug. 8 during the 6 p.m. ET edition of SPORTSCENTRE• Synopsis: The award-winning DJ Steve Porter debuts his latest sports mash-up, which transforms old news footage about the Wayne Gretzky trade into a remix, centering on the infamous press conference at which Gretzky says, "I promised Mess I wouldnt do this." The next step is a better finish. Bae played bogey-free Friday on another gorgeous day at Riviera for a 5-under 66, giving him a one-shot lead over Aaron Baddeley and Robert Garrigus going into the weekend. Wholesale Twins Jerseys . The third-ranked Ivanovic, who won the event in 2008 and 10, served five aces and broke Wickmayer, also a former winner in 2009, five times. "The result looked easier than it really was," Ivanovic said. https://www.cheaptwins.com/ . Tracey comes to the Blue Bombers after spending over a decade with Queens University. Most recently he was the schools assistant football coach. Stitched Twins Jerseys . -- Jonathan Drouin gave Halifax the boost it needed to edge host Sherbrooke Phoenix 3-2 in a shootout in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Fake Twins Jerseys . Those lessons were more than enough to overwhelm the Utah Jazz. Lou Williams scored 25 points and the Hawks continued their offensive upswing as they rolled to an easy 118-85 victory over the Jazz on Friday night, winning their third straight and for the fourth time in five games. SEATTLE -- Edwin Diaz lost his command just long enough that the ninth inning became uncomfortable for Seattle.Fortunately the Mariners did enough at the plate to withstand an off night from their young closer. You cant walk out of this thinking `Oh my gosh, Seattle manager Scott Servais said. We won the game. We got three outs before they got three runs. Thats what the job called for tonight.Home runs from Kyle Seager, Robinson Cano and Adam Lind were enough to hold off Milwaukees rally in the ninth inning, and the Mariners won their seventh straight at home beating the Brewers 7-6 on Friday night.Seager got Seattle started with a solo home run, Cano added a two-run shot and Linds solo homer in the eighth became a huge insurance run as the Mariners pulled within two games of Baltimore for the second wild card in the American League.Seattle also got key RBI hits from Stefan Romero, Nelson Cruz and Ketel Marte as the Mariners added on and didnt rely solely on the long ball.We havent done that always this season, Servais said. We just put pressure on them every inning, which was really important tonight.Ryan Braun had a two-out, two-run single in the ninth off Diaz to pull the Brewers within 7-6 after Diaz walked the bases loaded. But Diaz struck out Hernan Perez to close out his ninth save with the tying run at third.Diaz struggled throwing his fastball for strikes in the ninth but believed the problem is mechanical.I was feeling like I dropped my arm a little bit. I need to work on that, Diaz said.Chris Carter hit the longest recorded home run in Safeco Field history, estimated at 465 feet after hitting the batting backdrop in center field for the first of Milwaukees three home runs. Jonathan Villar and Keon Broxton added back-to-back homers off Seattle starter Wade LeBlanc leading off the sixth inning.LeBlanc (3-0) was able to limit the damage to those three solo homers, although he lasted just 5 1/3 innings. The homers are getting a little ridiculous, said LeBlanc, who has allowed seven in his last three starts.Brent Suter (0-1) made his major league debut for Milwaukee but was unable to make it out of the fifth inning, giving up four runs and seven hits. For the first three innings, Suter wass just fine.dddddddddddd Aside from three walks, he didnt allow a hit through the first 10 outs. Seager ended that streak with a long home run to right field. Suter was unable to make it out of the fifth inning, giving up Canos two-run shot and Romeros base hit before being lifted.A little bit of nerves, walking a couple guys in the early innings, Suter said. Then I just made a couple mistakes in the third and fourth innings that came back to haunt us.Seattle also took advantage of three Milwaukee errors. Marte reached on shortstop Orlando Arcias throwing error leading off the sixth and scored when left fielder Jake Elmore couldnt hold on to Cruzs sinking line drive. Elmore initially made the catch but lost the ball as he hit the ground.Carters home run was his 28th of the year and according to Mariners records was 3 feet longer than Mark Teixeiras 462-foot home run in 2007.RIGHTIES ONLYSuter became the first left-handed pitcher to start a game for the Brewers since Aug. 23, 2013. Milwaukee had used just right-handers in its starting rotation for nearly three calendar years -- a span of 474 games. Suter snapped the second-longest streak in major league history of right-handed starters. The longest streak still belongs to the Dodgers, who used just right-handed starters for 681 straight games from 1992-97.ROSTER SHUFFLEBrewers: Along with bringing up Suter to make the start, Milwaukee also optioned RHP Damien Magnifico to Triple-A Colorado Springs, designated OF Ramon Flores for assignment and reinstated OF Domingo Santana from the 15-day DL.Mariners: Seattle optioned slumping slugger Dae-Ho Lee to Triple-A Tacoma, along with RHP Joe Wieland. Romero was recalled from Tacoma and RHP Steve Cishek was activated from the 15-day DL.UP NEXTBrewers: Wily Peralta (5-8) goes for his second straight victory. Peralta allowed one run in six innings in his last start against Cincinnati.Mariners: Felix Hernandez (7-4) looks for his fourth win since being activated off the DL on July 20. Hernandez allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a victory over the Angels in his last start. ' ' '
