Robert Griffin III was one of the prized assets of the 2012 NFL Draft. Now, he looks set to become the latest out-of-work quarterback looking for a new team. The Washington Redskins gave up three years worth of first-round picks to the St Louis Rams to ensure they were able to secure the Heisman Trophy-winning college superstar out of Baylor, but it looks almost certain that the team will now move on from Griffin. After leading the Redskins to the play-offs and an NFC East title in his first season, while securing the offensive rookie of the year award, it has all been downhill. During the teams wildcard round loss to Seattle, Griffin suffered torn ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee. A sub-standard 2013 season followed as he was replaced by Kirk Cousins, a fourth-round draft pick, also from the 2012 class. Kirk Cousins has made the quarterback position in Washington his own After a brief 2014 return, he was again deposed by Cousins, who went on to set franchise records for passing yards and touchdowns last season, leading the club back to the play-offs in the process. In fact, Griffin never took a snap in 2015, falling down to third in the Redskins depth chart behind Colt McCoy.So, what is next for a quarterback who was once so coveted? Well, it certainly looks like it wont be with Washington. Redskins to move on from RG3 Robert Griffin IIIs time in Washington seems to be at an end Thats after team president Bruce Allen appeared to confirm that Griffins future lies elsewhere.I see Robert getting an opportunity with another team, said Allen.Weve heard from some teams that are interested. I think hes going to have a choice of a couple of teams that will let him excel in the future. So, just where will Griffin land for the 2016 season? We take a look at some of the teams that could offer the 26-year old a second chance in the NFL.Cleveland BrownsThe term quarterback-needy doesnt do the Browns justice. Theyre desperate for a solution, especially now that it seems the Johnny Manziel experiment is at an end. Cleveland look set to move on from Johnny Manziel The team will get a fresh start in 2016 under new head coach Hue Jackson - a man known for his excellent work with quarterbacks. With Jackson as offensive coordinator last season, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton had the best passer rating of his career (106.3), also throwing for 25 touchdowns.Cleveland would seem a good fit for Griffin, but with the franchise up second in this years draft, they could have the pick of all the quarterbacks available, with many analysts suggesting they could select Californias Jared Goff.Dallas CowboysCowboys owner Jerry Jones has never been one to hide his admiration for the aforementioned Manziel, but even he might see it as too much of a risk to take a punt on the controversial quarterback.Tony Romo is their undisputed starter, but hell be 36 when the new season starts, and will be coming off the back of an injury-ravaged season that saw him play in only four games. And even with Romo healthy, Dallas need to address their backup situation. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo endured an injury-hit season in 2015 Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore were all tried in Romos absence, but ultimately, none were successful as the Cowboys slumped to a 4-12 season. However, there are question marks regarding Griffins ability to fit in Cowboys coach Jason Garretts scheme, with some reports suggesting his offensive co-ordinator Scott Linehan simply isnt a fan of the quarterback. But given their lack of depth at the position, Griffin will be considered.Philadelphia EaglesNobody would be surprised if Griffin ended up in an Eagles uniform next season. Sam Bradford could be on his way out of Philadelphia after just one year Last season, head coach Chip Kelly traded away Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles to the Rams, in exchange for their starter Sam Bradford.Kelly is now gone, and Bradford failed to match expectations. Theres every chance Bradford could re-sign with the Eagles, otherwise he will become a free agent. But Philadelphia and their new coach Doug Pederson will be keeping their options open. New Philadelphia coach Doug Pederson could be the man to resurrect Griffins career Pederson, a former quarterback himself, helped Alex Smith finally reach his potential in Kansas City while offensive coordinator.Philadelphia have been searching for a solution at the position since Donovan McNabbs departure in 2009, and Griffin would present a potential long-term option for the franchise. Watch a selection of the best one-handed catches from NFL history Houston TexansBill OBrien knows how to coach quarterbacks - its his specialty. The fact the Houston Texans coach led a team that spent a season juggling Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, TJ Yates and Brandon Weeden under center to the play-offs is testament to that. However, OBrien tried to make Hoyer his main man, and, in the end, that was the teams downfall. The signal callers horrendous showing in Houstons 30-0 demolition at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs made Houstons ever-growing need for a long-term solution at quarterback even more apparent. Houstons Brian Hoyer endured a disastrous outing against the Chiefs in the play-offs Owner Bob McNair has signalled the clubs intention to make a change at the position during the off-season, but it could be more likely this will be done via the draft. Christian Hackenberg, who worked under OBrien at Penn State, could be reunited with his college head coach. The Texans believe they are just a quarterback away from success, so theres no doubt they will thoroughly exhaust their options. An available Griffin will certainly be in the mix.Denver BroncosTheyve just won the Super Bowl, but the off-season isnt going to be easy for the Denver Broncos at quarterback. Peyton Manning looks set to retire on a Super Bowl win The legendary Peyton Manning is soon to be 40, and is widely expected to retire. His back-up Brock Osweiler impressed Denvers front office and coaching staff when he relieved Manning mid-season, and is seen by many as the future of the franchise. But he could be on the way out too.Thats because hes about to become a free agent, and could be tempted by a big-money offer elsewhere. And with Super Bowl MVP Von Miller commanding a huge sum to stay in Denver, the cap room might simply not be there to make Osweiler an offer he cant refuse. That would leave coach Gary Kubiak with just second-year Trevor Siemian at the position, so it wouldnt be a surprise if they were to turn to Griffin to bulk up their resources. When the new AFL womens league kicks off next year, it will be more than just something to fill the off-season void. For a generation of female athletes, it will mean another door opening in the male-dominated world of professional team sports.Earning a decent wage as a woman in sport has never been easy, and there are still barriers to participation. Many of the future AFL womens stars started out playing on male football teams because there were no girls teams, or didnt get the chance to play until they finished school. But netball great Liz Ellis can see small steps being made towards equality for girls like her five-year-old daughter Evelyn. The first Saturday of the Olympics, her and I sat and watched the television and we flicked between the womens rugby sevens, the womens basketball and the womens soccer, Ellis told AAP.They were the three things on offer. And she looked at me and said Mummy, why dont boys play sport? ... I said because theyre busy ironing. That whole mindset has changed. Kids this age are looking at the television and saying big girls play sport so of course Im going to play sport and I would imagine that would translate to the schoolyard.Winning over girls like Evelyn is becoming increasingly important for the rival codes. While netball remains a powerhouse, the number of girls playing Auskick grew 21 per cent in 2016 and soccers popularity continues to grow.We keep talking about the competition at the elite level but I actually think the competition is starting now for the junior dollar, Ellis says.Thats good, because it will keep all the sports on their toes. Theyll make sure that their product is exactly what the marketplace wants.Increasingly, the market is demanding fair and equitable pay deals. The AFL drew heavy criticism when it proposed paying most female footballers a $5000 salary for the 22-weeks of their inaugural pre-season and season proper.A fairer deal has since been agreed upon, with the minimum wage lifted by 70 per cent from $5000 to $8500 to help players cover the cost of private health insurance. The deal also covers football boots and runners, an interstate travel allowance, income protection insurance, out-of-pocket medical expenses and childcare for mothers of infants. While the league is not expected to be profitable anytime soon, the AFL views its development as an important step towards engaging more female fans.Netball has lead the way on compensation, increasing its minimum wage to $27,375 and including private health cover for all players, while female cricketers earn at least $18,000 if they play both the one-day and Twenty20 domestic leagues. At the other end of the spectrum, some W-League soccer players receive an allowance of just $60 per week, while the struggling WNBL has no broadcast deal and no minimum wage for its players.ddddddddddddIts a disappointing state of affairs for Lauren Jackson, widely considered Australias greatest female basketballer, who is pushing for change in her role as commercial operations manager with the Melbourne Boomers. The WNBL has always had to fight to retain quality talent given the better pay on offer overseas, and Jackson says its no surprise players are being tempted to swap codes.Right now its happening because professional sports in Australia dont pay women enough money to stay in one code, she told AAP.Basketball is one of the only sports where you can go overseas as a woman and make lucrative money, enough money to mean you dont have to work in the future if you dont want to.The next couple of years are going to be crucial for the survival of the WNBL. I think theres enough people that want to see it succeed that well make it succeed ... (but) systems are going to have to be put in place.Jackson isnt sure if she would have been tempted to try her hand in the AFL womens league. Her mum, a former Opal, played the odd game of footy alongside her big brothers in the Ovens and Murray amateur footy league but basketball was always the family passion.Ellis personally reckons she would have made a decent ruckwoman, and says shes not surprised by the code-hopping.Of course I would have had a go at it, she says.I wasnt surprised to see players sign up for it. I think its terrific. What it does is create that level of competition because its made sports like basketball and cricket all step up and say right, weve got to look after our athletes. I couldnt think of a better thing. But while womens sports have made progress in recent years, theres still a long way to go.Jackson describes a recent phone conversation with a close friend who casually referred to a young male tennis player as acting like a woman on the court.People dont realise theyve got these sort of attitudes but when youre saying you throw like a girl or youre acting like a woman, youre offending the hell out of me, she says. Its so prevalent in our society and its just there. Nobody addresses it because nobody wants to talk about it. Its this attitude that women arent as good as men.Its something that we have to change for the next generation of kids so that they dont have to face these problems and feel like a lot of women in sport.
