NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Marcus Mariota certainly is looking forward to a chance to play the Miami Dolphins for a second straight season. As is the Tennessee Titans offensive line.A year ago, the Dolphins sacked Mariota five times and finished with six in routing Tennessee 38-10 last year in Nashville. They also intercepted the rookie quarterback twice and forced him into two fumbles with Cameron Wake responsible for much of it with four sacks and both forced fumbles by halftime.Luckily for Mariota, Olivier Vernon now plays for the New York Giants after being flagged twice for unnecessary roughness. One of those hits sprained Mariotas left medial collateral ligament, costing the quarterback the next two games.Unfortunately last year there were some things that occurred during the game that we werent able to control and kind of affected the outcome of the game, Mariota said Wednesday. Thats part of it, just looking forward to getting back out there again.Mariota can go into Sundays game feeling a bit more secure in his pass protection, having been sacked only seven times -- a number cut in half from the 14 allowed through the first four games of his rookie season. Tennessee wound up allowing a league-worst 54 sacks in 2015.Now the Titans (1-3) rank 10th in the NFL allowing a sack on 5.15 percent of pass plays. Were blocking better, the schemes were doing some things differently scheme-wise to help with the protection and hopefully it continues, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. Thats the plan.New general manager Jon Robinson signed center Ben Jones away from Houston before trading down from the No. 1 overall pick back to eighth to select Jack Conklin from Michigan State in just the latest attempt by this franchise to improve the offensive line. Both have started every game this season.Right guard Chance Warmack was placed on injured reserve Sept. 22 needing surgery on a torn tendon in his right hand, and Josh Kline, a waiver wire pickup from New England has started the past two games. Mularkey also hired Hall of Fame lineman Russ Grimm as his offensive line coach.Mularkey said left tackle Taylor Lewan has played well all season along with left guard Quinton Spain getting some much-needed experience in his second season. The Titans passed one test in last weeks 27-20 loss at Houston, allowing only one sack after giving up seven to the Texans last season.Lewan couldnt put his finger on exactly what is working better, though he also credited getting help from running backs and tight ends to block pass rushers. Lewan is looking forward to playing the Dolphins (1-3) again. Its a huge opportunity, Lewan said. Like Ive said, you want to be the best, play against the best. Those guys are definitely a great front line. Front sevens all unbelievable.Wake didnt exactly return the compliment when asked about what he sees in the Titans offensive line, joking he doesnt like offensive linemen.I think theyre like O-linemen, Wake said. Theyre big, theyre slow and theyre ugly, just like most of the ones we have here. Us fast pretty guys like to take advantage of them.Game notes Conklin and TE Jace Amaro were limited in practice Wednesday with a sore shoulder. Thousands of Southern California fans enveloped the Trojans to celebrate an improbable win secured by an interim coach, an inconsistent kicker and a thin defence that wouldnt break. The feud between New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman threatens to overwhelm what is a critical early-season game in the NFC East.A division that the Redskins won with just a 9-7 record last season appears there for the taking for the Giants. New York is off to a 2-0 start and already owns a win over the Cowboys in Dallas. A Giants victory over Washington on Sunday (1 p.m. EDT) at MetLife Stadium would add a second division win and put the Redskins (0-2) in an awful position three weeks into the season. We look at it, Hey, its the next game, Giants quarterback Eli Manning said. Were worried about our season and what weve got to do, and its a chance for us to go 3-0, and thats all we are concerned with.Neither team wants to let Beckham-Norman drama overshadow the contest, though it figures to occur anyway.By the end of the Dec. 20, 2015, game in New York against the Carolina Panthers, Normans former team, Beckham had been whistled for three personal-foul penalties, including one after he got a 10-yard running start and smashed into Normans helmet. For his part, Norman was fined more than $26,000 and was called for two personal fouls. The Giants also maintained that Carolina players waved a bat at them before the game and hurled homosexual slurs at Beckham. Norman later denied that happened, but there was enough ugliness that day to go around.I am looking forward to playing the New York Giants, man, Norman said. A lot has been said from this week all the way up since last time we played each other, so Im sure theyre going to be ready just as much as we are. Shoot, seems Sunday cant get here fast enough. The Redskins are bordering on desperate. They were blown out by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the opener at home and were left seething after a close loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Washingtons schedule only gets tougher in November and December, so the Redskins cant afford a slow start. Winning in New York is never an easy task, though. The Redskins have lost four in a row and seven of eight on the road againsst the Giants.ddddddddddddThe injury list is growing quickly for Washington, too. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson (knee/ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday. Left tackle Trent Williams (right knee), defensive end Chris Baker (rib/elbow/knee/toe) and rookie wide receiver Josh Doctson (left Achilles tendon) were all limited.New York is worried about starting right guard Marshall Newhouse (calf) -- who plays a position at which the team possesses limited depth -- and running back Rashad Jennings (thumb). The running game was ineffective in the Giants ugly 16-13 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Giants did not score an offensive touchdown.Another concern for New York? Three lost fumbles. The Giants cant afford to give Washingtons offense that many chances.Putting the ball on the ground three times is not something we want make a trend or something that we want to continue doing, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said. So we want to make sure that we pay attention to detail, pay attention to the little things. Ball security is definitely one of those little things that we need to clean up a little bit.The Giants defense has been solid against the run this season, but it is unclear how much Washington will employ running back Matt Jones and company this weekend. The Redskins profess to want to find a balance between the running and passing game, but they have thrown the ball 89 times and run it just 29 through two games. Some of that is because Washington fell behind early in the second half to the Steelers, but some of it is just not being able to move the ball on the ground and having so many weapons at wide receiver and tight end. Were not happy with the run-pass balance, Washington coach Jay Gruden said. Based on the numbers, were obviously not a run-first team. Id be standing up here looking like a fool if I said were a pound the rock type team right now. First two games, the proof is in the pudding, the numbers. ' ' '
