Darrell Hazell never won consecutive games at Purdue and his latest failed attempt to string together a couple victories turned out to be his last.Purdue fired Hazell on Sunday midway through his fourth season and less than 24 hours after the Boilermakers again could not win two in a row.Hazell was 9-33 overall with just three Big Ten victories since taking over in 2013. At .220, He finished with the worst winning percentage of any Purdue coach in 95 years. His dismissal had seemed almost inevitable entering this season, but a 3-2 start with victories over Eastern Kentucky and Nevada, along with an overtime win over Illinois on Oct. 8 gave some hope that he would be given a full season to show progress. Then the Boilermakers lost 49-35 to Iowa on homecoming Saturday and trailed 42-14 heading into the fourth quarter. The hope was that we would build on the victory at Illinois and carry it over to the Iowa game, athletic director Mike Bobinski said Sunday. It didnt happen. We werent showing progress, so it was time to make a change.Bobinski, who was hired away from Georgia Tech in August to replace the retiring Morgan Burke, said he met with Hazell on Sunday morning.Darrell was disappointed, but as he always is, he was a gentleman, Bobinski said. From the first time I met Darrell, I could tell he was a man of high character, but our inconsistent performance and inability to generate positive momentum -- along with the disappointing results of the past three seasons -- made it clear to me that we needed to make a change.Wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Gerad Parker was named interim coach. Parker is in his fourth season on staff. We met with the team early this afternoon, and we have a bunch of men who are hurting, Parker said. For me, there is great sadness, but it also is a great challenge. It is awkward, but I will lean on Mike Bobinski, our staff and our players. We have to get prepared to get on a plane and fly to Nebraska and play a great Nebraska team. That must be our focus.Along with failing performance came sagging attendance at Purdue. The Boilermakers have averaged 32,078 fans at Ross-Ade Stadium, capacity 62,000, for four home games. Thats down from 37,152 last season.Purdue is in the process of building a $65 million football facility.College athletics cant have a better man than Darrell Hazell, and I would like to see more individuals with his virtues in Division I athletics, university president Mitch Daniels said in a statement. But while character is mandatory every day at Purdue, positive performance also must be there. With new leadership and the rapidly evolving Football Performance Complex, Im confident that better days are ahead. The last Purdue coach to have a worse winning percentage than Hazell was William Henry Dietz, who went 1-6 in 1921.Hazell, 52, was hired away from Kent State, where the former Ohio State assistant went 16-10 with a Mid-American Conference championship in 2012. He replaced Danny Hope at Purdue. Hope had gone 22-27 in four seasons as successor to Joe Tiller, the winningest coach in school history, with 87 victories.Hazell has two years left on his original six-year contract worth $12.75 million and he will be paid the full remainder of the deal.Bobinski said he will quickly begin a search and that Purdues reputation for being thrifty with coaching salaries would not be an issue with this hire.Purdue could look to another MAC coach, Western Michigans P.J. Fleck, or possibly to a former Boilermakers assistant in Brock Spack, who is 58-33 in eight seasons at FCS Illinois State. Spack was defensive coordinator under Tiller.Former LSU coach Les Miles, who is a former Michigan player with Big Ten roots, would bring credibility to a program that hasnt had extended success since Tiller retired after the 2008 season. The 62-year old Miles has said he would like to coach again. The Boilermakers went to 10 bowl games, including the 2001 Rose Bowl, under Tiller, but have not finished with a winning record only once since. Ibaka equaled a career high with 20 rebounds, adding four blocked shots and 15 points as the Thunder smothered the Milwaukee Bucks offence in a 92-79 victory Saturday night. Cheap Air Max 270 Canada .Y. - General manager Billy King says the Brooklyn Nets are looking to add a big man and confirmed the team worked out centre Jason Collins, who would become the first openly gay active NBA player if signed. Wholesale Nike Air Max 270 . Already owning gold from competition in Vancouver in 2010, Loch posted a combined four-run time of 3:27.526. That included a track-record third run of 51. Two sides with confidence and designs on the top half of the table collide at The Hawthorns on Monday night to wrap up Matchday 12 as West Bromwich Albion host Burnley. The Baggies (3-4-4) are a spot below the Clarets (4-2-5) in the Premier League pecking order, and three points for either club will vault them back into the top 10. West Brom went into the break on a high after winning 2-1 at reigning champions Leicester City, and the Baggies are out to continue that style of play to reverse their home woes. Its massive. The away support at Leicester was fantastic and if we just pick it up, its trying to get the supporters to understand how big a part they do play at home and get behind the group and I think were moving in the right direction slowly and it will be a slow process here, said manager Tony Pulis to his teams official website.West Brom have taken just five points from their five home matches, with four of their six goals coming in that victory over West Ham United on Sept. 17. Defender Craig Dawson, who will make his 100th Premier League appearance if selected, is hoping this match will serve as a springboard for better things to come.I think this next group of games will be seen by everybody as a chance for us to really get our season going, Dawson said. Weve got nearly everyone fit and the gaffer has some great options -- thats why I take nothing for granted and presume I am going to be picked on Monday.Burnley had that terrific win late against Palace and they will not be short of confidence. We need our fans right behind us as always because you can never overstate how much difference that makes on the pitch.Chris Brunt appears fully recovered from offseason knee surgery and scored for Northern Ireland in their World Cup qualifier win over Azerbaijan. The veteran midfielder is looking to this stretch of schedule -- the Baggies face Hull City, Watford and Swansea after thiss match -- as a prime opportunity to grab points ahead of the busy holiday fixture list.ddddddddddddYou want to get as many points on the board before that, he said. You dont want to be looking at the games over the Christmas period thinking we need to get something here and there to keep our heads above water.Burnley have done just that in their return to the top flight after a season in the Championship. The Clarets have wins over Everton and Crystal Palace around a draw at Old Trafford versus Manchester United, and Ashley Barnes goal at the death to provide a 3-2 victory over the Eagles before the break has Sean Dyche feeling his team is in the right frame of mind.I think its a good start. I think its a solid start, at least, and with the last performance and the last win, it turns into a good start overall, Dyche told Burnleys official website. The reality is its a seasons work, so were quite clear-minded about not getting too high with the highs and too low with the lows.Forward Sam Vokes will try to continue his fine form that has seen him score three goals in Burnleys last four league matches. The Wales international has accounted for four and assisted on a fifth of the Clarets 11 goals thus far.Burnley, though, have yet to carry their success from Turf Moor to the road, where they have taken just one point from four matches and have yet to score during the run of play. Additionally, the Clarets were given a 4-0 thrashing in their only visit to The Hawthorns in the Premier League, but Dyche thinks that could help keep his team focused on the task at hand.We know that. Weve experienced that before, which is the good side to looking back two years. We have been through that before so we know we have to continue to build and move forward with the team. ' ' '
