afternoon. ... Ive worked hard these first three days to put myself in this situation and Im going to try my hardest tomorrow t Antworten

CHASKA, Minn. -- William McGirt took his wife and infant son to Arnold Palmers office at Bay Hill, wanting nothing more than a photo.Palmer, as usual, gave him so much more.Any worries McGirt had about imposing on the King were put to rest as quickly as it took Palmer to reach over and take his son, Mac, out of his arms for the photo. We take the picture and I figure hell hand him back and wait for us to get out of his office, McGirt said Monday. No. We take the picture and he puts Mac on his desk and sits there playing with him. Mac knocked everything off his desk and he was like, `Its OK. He was having fun with him. He was the best at making you feel welcome. He made you feel like youve known him for 30 years. This was the very essence of Palmer, who died Sunday and left a gaping hole in the world of golf. This was the personal touch.Three months before his death, Palmer eased into the chair in his Pennsylvania office and started in on a lifes work that never seemed to end. On the desk next to him was a stack of photos, tournament flags and other memorabilia that fans from across the country had sent him, asking for an autograph. Some days he would sign for 10 minutes, other days an hour, depending on his energy level. But he signed. The walls outside his office are covered with personal letters from presidents dating to Dwight D. Eisenhower and other leaders. Palmer knew them all, and the letters showed how much they cherished their relationship with him.Palmer, however, treated the unknown fans with as much consideration. He made them feel important.Phil Mickelson learned that lesson over the years. The most important Palmer imparted: Never walk past anybody. He always made eye contact. He always acknowledged they were there, Mickelson said. We all try, but we never live up to his standard. He made the difficult look easy. His signature is among the most famous in sport. Everyone can read it, each letter just as legible as the A and the P. One year in his office at Bay Hill, Palmer reached for a black pen and a blank sheet of paper to show how he learned to write. He even remembered the name of his teacher in the first grade, Rita Taylor, and the Palmer Method of Writing that was scrawled on the blackboard.Thats how kids in the 1930s learned to write. The method wasnt named after Palmer. He just perfected it.Moving his large hand in a circular motion until there was a large, black dot on the paper, the King showed that it was about using the arm, not the wrist, as he moved down the line to write his name. No telling how often that signature has been written. As Rocco Mediate said, Palmer autographs dont sell for much because there are probably 8 billion of them. And nothing is more personal than a letter.Gavin Hall, who plays for the Texas Longhorns, was 14 when a letter arrived in the mail from the Bay Hill Invitational in 2009. It was from Palmer, whom he had never met and never did. Hall had played in the prestigious Monroe Invitational in upstate New York that year. Palmers grandson, Sam Saunders, also was in the field. Maybe thats why he wrote.I was pleased to hear of your recent accomplishments on the golf course, the letter begins. It goes on to encourage Hall to stay devoted to the game without dismissing his education.Hall was in a minor state of shock. There was no way it was Arnold Palmer. How in the heck would he know what I did? Hall said Monday. It was amazing. To this day, its the best letter I ever received. Can you believe the amount of people he has reached? How many lives? I never met him, and he still wrote that.Hall, who qualified for the 2013 U.S. Open as an 18-year-old, was one of the younger recipients. But he wasnt alone. Each week, Palmer wrote letters to every player who won on tours large and small. Russell Knox was one of them. He won his first Web.com Tour event five years ago outside San Francisco, and a few weeks later received a letter from the King.I called my dad and said: `Youre not going to believe this. Arnold Palmer wrote me a letter, Knox said. He didnt believe me.Palmer kept a tight schedule three years ago. He took time for a visitor before two meetings and lunch with supermodel Kate Upton. He paused before signing a letter to David Frost, who had won on the Champions Tour, and said, Hes playing pretty good. The next letter was to Kevin Streelman, who had won at Innisbrook the week before. Palmer watched the back nine on television and liked what he saw.On the way out the door, an assistant told him that Japanese photographers wanted to take his picture. They were outside his door and when Palmer saw them, he rattled off his best Japanese greeting. His voice was animated. His smile put everyone at ease. The words probably didnt come out the right way. It didnt matter. They all laughed together and Palmer wrapped his arms around one of them and gave her a big hug.Just like they were old friends. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcons-Deion-Sanders-Jersey/ . Thats not a comment on the suspension that banished the Portland Winterhawks general manager and coach from his Western Hockey League teams bench for most of the 2012-13 season. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcons-Grady-Jarrett-Jersey/ .com) - The game was all punts and field goals before Kodi Whitfields catch. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcons-Vic-Beasley-Jersey/ . Jeff Green scored 13 points and Kris Humphries 12 for the Celtics, who nearly blew an 18-point, second-half lead. Sullingers 20-20 was the first by a Celtics player since Kevin Garnetts first game in Boston in 2007. Garnett was dealt -- along with Paul Pierce -- to Brooklyn during the off-season. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/ . The Celtics closed out their first preseason under Stevens on Wednesday night with a 101-97 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, who rested a lot of their lineup including former Celtics Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. http://www.falconsrookiestore.com/Falcons-Andy-Levitre-Jersey/ . Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. Negredo broke the deadlock from close range after a simple move in the 99th minute before Dzeko took the ball round goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal the victory in the 105th. TROON, Scotland -- Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson delivered what everyone expects out of a major championship. They matched birdies and improbable par saves. Momentum could change with any shot. The lead changed four times over four hours of golf at its highest level, played in the cold wind and occasional rain off the Irish Sea. All the British Open lacked Saturday was a winner.Turns out this was only the preview to a duel at Royal Troon.Stenson took the lead for the last time with another two-shot swing on an inward par 3, and he kept it with a nifty up-and-down on the 18th for par and a 3-under 68, the second straight day that no one had a better score. That gave the 40-year-old Swede his first lead in a major, even if it was just one shot over someone who already has five majors and his name on the claret jug.Theres only one thing that matters tomorrow, Stenson said. I know hes not going to back down, and Im certainly going to try to not back down, either. So it should be an exciting afternoon. ... Ive worked hard these first three days to put myself in this situation and Im going to try my hardest tomorrow to finish the job.Links golf can deliver some strange finishes, though this had all the trappings of a two-man race on Sunday.Stenson had his third straight round in the 60s -- no one has ever won at Royal Troon with all four rounds in the 60s -- and was at 12-under 201. He is trying to become only the eighth player dating to Old Tom Morris in 1861 to win his first major after turning 40.Mickelson, winless since he lifted golfs oldest trophy at Muirfield three years ago, had a 70. His game was nowhere near as sharp as his opening-round 63 that tied a major championship record. Even so, he came up with the rights shots at the right time until Stenson passed him late in the afternoon. Some days its easy and it looks pretty like the first couple, Mickelson said. Some days its hard and it looks terrible, like it did today. But either way, I shot three rounds under par.He made a 25-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole for a two-shot lead. Stenson answered with a 5-iron to 6 feet for birdie on the next hole to tie for the lead when Mickelson three-putted, only his third bogey of the week.Mickelson regained the lead with a pitch to 4 feet for birdie on the par-5 16th, only for the Swede to answer again, this time with an all-out 3-iron into the wind on the 220-yard 17th hole to 20 feet. Mickelson lost the lead by missing the green to the left and making bogey.Everyone else felt like mere spectators.Bill Haas, a six-time winner on the PGA Tourr who is rarely heard from at majors, was solid with a 69 and alone in third.dddddddddddd Its his highest position ever in a major, yet he was six shots off the lead. Another shot back was Andrew Johnston, the Englishman with a big belly and beard to match who goes by Beef. He broke par for the third straight day with a 70.It was unlikely to matter. This was all about Stenson and Mickelson, two powerful players with different styles and different credentials, mainly the number of majors -- five for Mickelson, none for Stenson. Mickelson spoke earlier in the week about not having as much pressure knowing he already has won them. Not since Davis Love III and Justin Leonard shared the lead and were seven shots clear of the field in the 1997 PGA Championship has the final round of a major took on the appearance of match play.I was happy enough to throw two good punches in there on the par 3s and pick up two shots on either one of them to come back out on top at the end of the third round, Stenson said. Ive always been of the thought that its better to be one ahead than one behind, because that means Phils got to play better than I do.Mickelson finished three shots ahead of Stenson three years ago at Muirfield when Lefty closed with a 66 in one of the best final rounds of a major. He hasnt won another tournament since, and at age 46, it appeared time was running out.A victory Sunday would give him six majors, same as Nick Faldo and Lee Trevino. He also would be the third-oldest major champion behind Julius Boros (48) and Morris, with whom Mickelson shares a birthday -- June 16, albeit 149 years apart. The 1861 Open was played in September.Stenson was on the verge of falling two shots behind until he holed a 40-foot par putt on the 10th. Two holes later, Mickelson was in danger of losing the lead when he pushed his 2-iron toward trouble and was fortunate the ball deflected off a piece of prickly gorse. He had just enough room to hammer it up the fairway, and then played a shot rarely seen in links golf -- instead of running it up along the ground, he spun it back down a ridge to 6 feet for a key par.I got lucky that that ball didnt go into the gorse, even though I didnt have a back swing, Mickelson said. I still had a chance to advance it a little bit. I still hit a good shot to advance it down the fairway like I did, and found a way to get up and down. Now, they have one more round, this time with a claret jug at stake.
