ST. LOUIS -- Michael Wacha labored to get 12 outs and the lineup struck out 15 times. The bottom line: the St. Louis Cardinals first series after the All-Star break was no fresh start. It just continues to be really good, and then it just doesnt look quite right, manager Mike Matheny said after a 6-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Were always frustrated every time we walk off that field and it doesnt look like we played the way we should play.Wacha was pulled after throwing 101 pitches and the Marlins first three batters reached safely in their two-run fifth. They were grinding through seven- and eight-pitch at-bats, they were fouling off good pitches, Matheny said. Those add up at the end of the day.The outing matched Wachas shortest of the season coming off a stretch in which he was 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his previous six starts. It stinks, you put a lot of pressure on the bullpen, Wacha said. I felt good out there, but the command wasnt where I wanted it to be.The loss comes after Adam Wainwright threw a three-hit shutout on Saturday night, but on Friday, the bullpen blew two saves and then took the loss.Matt Holliday batted cleanup for the first time this season and was a bright spot with three of St. Louis four hits, including his 16th homer. But he didnt have much help ahead of him. Randal Grichuk struck out four times, Tommy Pham whiffed three times and the top three in the order mustered just two walks. Pham was 5 for 8 the first two games of the series with two homers on Friday. You cant wait for things to happen, you have to find a way, Pham said. If theres a will, theres a way, and theres definitely a way.Ichiro Suzuki doubled, singled twice and had another hit taken away on a replay challenge, leaving him six shy of 3,000 in Major League Baseball. The 42-year-old Suzuki made just his second start this month with All-Star Marcell Ozuna getting a day off. Hes been largely reduced to pinch hitting behind a set outfield and singled in that role on Friday.Suzuki also walked, scored a run and came up just short on his bid to beat out an infield hit. All of that in wilting, 93-degree heat for a player whod been 3 for 11 in July.Giancarlo Stantons second double of the game drove in the go-ahead run in a two-run seventh against Jonathan Broxton (1-2).Christian Yelich had two hits and three RBI and Jeff Mathis bunted home a hit for Miami, which took two of three for just its second series win the last seven years in St. Louis.Kyle Barraclough (5-2) had three strikeouts in 1 2/3 perfect relief innings and A.J. Ramos earned his 29th save in 30 chances. The bullpen worked 3 2/3 hitless innings after finishing with two spotless frames in a 5-0 loss Saturday. The Marlins have won five of six overall and are seven games above .500, matching their high water mark of the season.Marlins starter Adam Conley matched his career high with nine strikeouts, giving up two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.TRAINERS ROOMCardinals: 1B-OF Brandon Moss (ankle) is making slow progress and is still in a walking boot.UP NEXTMarlins: Jose Fernandez (11-4, 2.52) works the opener of a four-game series at Philadelphia. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Unlike last seasons 32-point victory for Dayton, this one went down to the wire.Ryan Mikesell made his second 3-pointer of the game with 76 seconds left and Dayton beat Alabama 77-72 on Tuesday. That was a big shot, a really big shot for him, Dayton coach Archie Miller said. Hes a tough-minded kid, hes got guts and I knew when he shot it he would have a chance to make it just because of who he is as a competitor.Alabama coach Avery Johnson called his last timeout to set up a tying 3-point play with 19.5 seconds remaining, but Corban Collins open attempt from the corner was off the mark.Coach Johnson did a really good job of drawing up a play to get us open, Collins said. I just had to take my time and I rushed it a little bit. But like coach said, its something we can look at in film and fix, and next time we see that situation we know how to handle it better.Scoochie Smith made three of Daytons nine 3-pointers and scored 20 points. Charles Cooke had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Dayton (2-0), which connected on 24 of 44 shots from the floor while Alabama made only 23 of 59 (39 percent). Mikesell and Josh Cunningham each scored 12 points.Really, really hard fought game, especially early in the season to come out on the road and find a way to get a win was big for our group, Miller said.Collins and Braxton Key scored 15 points apiece for the Crimson Tide (1-1), which outrebounded the Flyers 40-28, includding 18-5 on the offense end.ddddddddddddDazon Ingram had 14 points and seven assists.Where we wouldve lost the game, obviously would have been on the glass, Miller said. Obviously we could not rebound the ball like a college basketball team today so thats something were going to take into account.BIG PICTUREDayton: The Flyers found themselves one spot outside the Top 25 this week, but with a win over the Crimson Tide, Dayton could be poised to move up next week.Alabama: The Crimson Tide lost to Dayton for the second consecutive year and must now wait for another chance to prove itself on a national stage.INJURY REPORTDaytons Josh Cunningham was fouled on a one-handed dunk to give his team a four-point lead in the final three seconds. He suffered an injury which knocked him out of the game and Miller said afterward that Cunningham could miss time due to knee and ankle injuries.FRESHMAN STANDOUTKey scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half for Alabama and he had a team-high six rebounds.NEXT UPDayton: The Flyers will return home, where they are 15-3 since the start of last season, and will face Saint Marys on Saturday.Alabama: After having its 16-game home winning streak against non-conference competition snapped, Alabama will attempt to start a new streak on Friday when it hosts Ball State. NEW YORK -- Mets manager Terry Collins said he had no problem with outfielder Yoenis Cespedes playing golf on Wednesday despite being out of the starting lineup the previous three days with a balky right quadriceps.Cespedes remains unable to play the field, but starts as the designated hitter on Wednesday night as the Mets open a stretch of five straight games in American League ballparks with a Subway Series matchup against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.Former major leaguer Kevin Millar tweeted a photo with Cespedes after a round of golf. Was he running on the course or was he walking? Did he ride a cart or was he jogging? Collins asked. I dont have any problem with it.A Mets official said Cespedes was unavailable to comment pregame Wednesday.Cespedes raised eyebrows during the National League Championship Series when he golfed in suburban Chicago on the morning of Game 4. Cespedes then departed that game with a shoulder injury. Cespedes subsequently explained that golfing relaxes him and he regularly plays during the season.Cespedes did pinch hit on Tuesday against the Yankees at Citi Field and was credited with an infield single. After the game he said the quadriceps was uncomfortable.I felt a little discomfort running down the line, but once I got into the dugout it went away, Cespedes said through an interpreter. The problem is that once I take a couple of days off, I feel better. But once I go full speed is when the pain returns. The Mets plan to use Cespedes as the designated hitter for the next five games. After the weekend, when the Mets return to National League ballparks, a decision will be made about whether Cespedes will require a stint on the disabled list, general manager Sandy Alderson said.Asked if he was troubled by Cespedes round of golf, Alderson tried to add some levity. Ill let you know after the game tonight, he said.In other injury news, first baseman Lucas Duda?--?who landed on the DL on May 23 with a stress fracture in his lower back -- had a setback last week when discomfort flared up.Los Angeles-based specialist Robert Watkins recommended 30 days of rest, which likely ends Dudas season, according to Alderson. Watkins does not believe surgery ultimately will be necessary, Alderson added.Duda could be a non-tender candidate in December. He is making $6.725 million this season and is eligible for arbitration one final time this winter. Alderson suggested it is possible one of the Mets outfielders -- presumably Michael Conforto or Jay Bruce -- might be asked to get acclimated to first base during the offseason.Right-hander Zack Wheeler will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday with Class A St. Lucie. Well find out a lot more about where things stand in the race for the College Football Playoff when the official rankings come out next week. Leading up to the big reveal, our college football experts narrowed the field to the 10 teams with the best shot at the national title.Heres a look at West Virginias title chances; to vote for who you think will win it all, go to our poll page or scroll to the bottom of this feature:The case for West VirginiaDespite being the lowest-ranked undefeated Power 5 team by the AP Poll (No. 10), West Virginia ranks fifth in the FBS in strength of record (ahead of Washington, Nebraska and Baylor). The Mountaineers have already beaten five teams currently ranked in the top 50 of FPI. Alabama is the only other FBS team that has five wins against FPI top 50 teams this season.-- ESPN Stats & InfoThe case against West VirginiaWest Virginia has not played an AP Top 25 team this season and has lost six straight games against ranked opponents, with its last such win coming in 2014 against No. 4 Baylor. ?West Virginia may be undefeated, but FPI projects a two-loss Oklahoma team as the favorite to win the Big 12.-- ESPN Stats & InfoTalking pointsVegas odds:?West Virginia has 40-1 odds to win the national title, according to Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook. What FPI says: According to ESPNs Football Power Index, the Mountaineers have a 7.2 percent chance of winning out through the regular season and a 31.9 percent chance of winning the Big 12. Their remaining schedule -- which includes matchups against No. 16 Oklahoma and No. 6 Baylor -- ranks as the 37th most difficult.ESPNs Mackenzie Kraemer:?After opening with 300-1 odds to win it all, the unbeaten Mountaineers are now 40-1 to win the College Football Playoff. They will be an underdog on Saturday against Oklahoma State, the first time they will be iin that role all season.dddddddddddd It is the only game FPI lists them with less than a 50 percent chance to win. FPI gives them a 32 percent chance to win the Big 12 and an 8 percent chance to run the table.ESPN Insider Brian Fremeau:?West Virginia has looked strong in the first part of its Big 12 schedule, knocking off Texas Tech and TCU in the past two weeks and playing very strong defense against both teams. The Red Raiders are averaging more than 50 points per game and TCU is scoring more than 35, but the Mountaineers held them to just 17 points and 10 points respectively, their lowest point totals of the season. Still, there are plenty of tough conference games ahead, starting with a road trip to Oklahoma State next weekend. If they get past the Cowboys, the next toughest games on the schedule project to be a home game against Oklahoma on Nov. 19 and a home game against Baylor on Dec. 3, each of which could have major conference title ramifications.ESPN staff writer Adam Rittenberg: Its a team that, in practices, showcases aggressive schemes on both sides of the ball, as well as unconventional looks, to prepare every player for everything he could see on Saturdays. ...Heres also whats good: a 6-0 start, West Virginias first since 2006. Thanks largely to the defense, the Mountaineers look like the Big 12s best playoff hopeful. They have allowed just 27 total points the last two weeks against offenses averaging 50.3 (Texas Tech) and 35.9 (TCU). WVU is especially stingy in the red zone, ranking ninth nationally in touchdown percentage against (42.9 percent). Now that youre stuffed with numbers and analysis, are you convinced the Mountaineers are going all the way? MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama?has cleared the way for defensive back Maurice Smith to transfer within the SEC, with the school granting him a full release,?his mother confirmed to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.?The Tuscaloosa News first reported the decision.Smith will have to be granted a waiver from the SEC, which has restrictions on athletes with less than two years of eligibility remaining transferring to league schools, including graduate transfers. Smith graduated earlier this month. His mother,?Samyra Smith, cautioned that Maurices battle is not over, but she told the AJC a decision from the conference is expected within the next 24 hours.Maurice Smith has been trying to follow former Alabama assistants Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker to Georgia?but was blocked from moving to another SEC school.A statement from the SEC said the league doesnt comment on such waiver requests, but they are reviewed on an individual basis. The SEC does not provide waivers of SEC rules absent circumstances that demonstrate a clear reason for granting an exception to those rules, the league statement said. Each waiver request is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The requirements for granting of a waiver include that the athletes athletic scholarship was not renewed. After Wednesdays practice, coach Nick Saban said Alabama had done everything it could to allow the conference to make the decision about whatever they decide is in the best interest of the conference and the SEC rules relative to Maurice Smith. So that is past us now, Saban said. It is beyond us. We dont really need to talk about that anymore, and I dont have any other comments to make about it.Smith was a first-team nickelback for the Tide during the spring. He played in every game last season, making 15 tackles.Smart, now Georgias head coach, disagreed with Sabans decision to block Smiths transfer and has said that he would absolutely support a graduate transfers right to transfer to another SEC school.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. MILWAUKEE -- The Charlotte Hornets turned up the pressure on the Milwaukee Bucks from the outset of their season opener.Nicholas Batum disrupted the Bucks on the perimeter. Center Roy Hibbert had his teammates backs in the paint. The defense helped Charlotte build a big early lead, and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist had 23 points and 14 rebounds in his return from a shoulder injury in the 107-96 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday night.Early, they didnt get things easy, Hornets coach Steve Clifford said. They led by as many as 24 points in the third quarter before fending off a late charge from Milwaukee. The Bucks, who looked lackluster for much of the game, drew energy from Greg Monroes hustle in the paint and Jason Terrys floater that cut the lead to 93-85 with 5:08 left. But the Hornets held on down the stretch, getting a straightaway 3 from Marvin Williams for a 12-point lead with 3:21 left. They definitely outplayed us. We just cant let that happen (any) more, Bucks forward Jabari Parker said.Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 31 points, nine rebounds and five assists. The 6-foot-11 forward, now serving as Milwaukees primary ball-handler, showed he was worth the four-year $100 million contract extension he signed before training camp.Im not happy, we all wanted to start this season with a win ... so thats all I can think about, Antetokounmpo said. The Hornets pressed early, and tried to force the Bucks to find other ways to start the offense. The Hornets also had an effective wing defender in the 6-foot-8 Batum.Nic set the tone with his ball pressure, trying to disrupt the offense, which not many guys his size could do, Clifford said.Williams finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, a playoff team a year ago following a 48-win season.TIP INSHornets: C Cody Zeller, who did not play the entire preseason because of a right knee injury, was 5 of 6 from the field for 15 points in 14 minutes. ... C-F Frank Kaminsky missed the game with a strained right foot. Kaminsky was a star in college at Wisconsin, where he helped lead the Badgers to two Final Four appearances.Bucks: Malcolm Brogdon played well in his NBA debut, serving as the point guard when Antetokounmpo and Matthew Dellavedova were off the court. Brogdon, a second-round draft pick, finished with eight points and five assists in 21 minutes.MOVIN ITThe Bucks couldnt keep up with Charlottes crisp ball movement in the first half, when the Hornets had 17 assists on 22 field goals to build a 15-point lead.Kemba Walker finished with eight assists, six coming in the first half.We just stuck to our game plan. We made all the right plays. We didnt turn the ball over too much, Walker said. We got a lot of stops, pushed the tempo, we made shots.MOVING ONCharlotte lost Jeremy Lin, Courtney Lee and Al Jefferson to free agency in the offseason, bringing in Marco Belinelli, Ramon Sessions and Hibbert. The new Hornets are fitting in quite nicely. Kidd-Gilchrist is back after playing just seven games last season. The 7-foot-2 Hibbert had a couple of rim-rocking dunks in the third quarter that helped build the 20-point lead. With Hibbert anchoring the middle defensively, Clifford likes the length and versatility provided by Batum and the 6-7 Kidd-Gilchrist.LONG SHOTSThe Bucks were haunted by familiar problems that carried over from last years 33-win squad.Milwaukee was just 1 of 9 from behind the 3-point arc in the first half. Interior defense was also an issue and the Hornets took advantage of the scrambling Bucks by moving the ball quickly around the court.Milwaukee finished 3 of 16 from behind the arc. Charlotte was 7 of 23 from 3-point range, but their baskets came in clutch situations. The timely 3s hurt. For us they shot 30 percent from the 3-point line. Alabama?offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has agreed to become Florida Atlantics next football coach.Although the school hasnt announced the move, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said in a Monday news conference that FAU had made a great hire.We think this is a wonderful opportunity for him to be a head coach again, Saban said. I think FAU has selected someone that is going to do a great job for them. Hes done a great job here molding our offensive players to what they can do to have the best chance to be successful, and I think thats always something thats very telling about the quality of a coach.Kiffin had been engaging in back-and-forth talks with the Conference USA school since last Friday, sources told ESPN. At one point, negotiations between the two sides stalled, but a deal was struck early Monday morning, sources said.Kiffin will remain Alabamas offensive coordinator throughout the College Football Playoff, Saban said, maintaining a similar role to former defensive coordinator Kirby Smarts last season, after he took Georgias head-coaching job.Kiffin, 41, returns to the head-coaching fraternity after three seasons as offensive coordinator under Saban. The Crimson Tide are in pursuit of their second straight national championship and have won three straight SEC titles, with Kiffin getting three different first-year starters ready at quarterback, including true freshman Jalen Hurts this season.Kiffins contract with Alabama was set to expire after this season, and he wasnt expected to return, which helps explain why he made a hard push to find a head-coaching job -- even if it meant a step down in prestige and most likely a pay cut.Lane appreciates the opportunity Nick Saban gave him and feels good about everything Alabama accomplished during his three years there, but he was at a point in his career where he was ready to go prove that he could be a head coach again, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com.Kiffins salary at FAU will average in thee $1 million range annually, according to sources.dddddddddddd He was making $1.4 million per year as Alabamas offensive coordinator. One of the finalists for the Houston head-coaching job, which went to Major Applewhite last week, Kiffin takes over an FAU program that went 3-9 this past season. He replaces Charlie Partridge, who was fired in November after going 9-27 in three seasons at the Boca Raton, Florida, school.Kiffin was also being pursued by new LSU head coach and friend Ed Orgeron to be the Tigers offensive coordinator. But Kiffin?wanted to keep all of his options open, including going back to the NFL.Considered by many to be one of the top offensive minds in the game, Kiffin has generated his share of controversy in his career, which has given some athletic directors and presidents around the country cause for concern about his ability to manage a program. But Saban said last week that he is confident Kiffin is ready to be a head coach again. This will be Kiffins fourth head-coaching stint. He was the Oakland Raiders head coach for the 2007 season and part of the 2008 season before being fired by Al Davis, the late Raiders owner. He went to Tennessee as head coach in 2009, but he bolted for USC after just one season in Knoxville.A former assistant at USC under Pete Carroll, Kiffin was the Trojans head coach from 2010 to 12 and then was fired five games into the 2013 season by then-USC athletic director Pat Haden. At USC, Kiffin inherited a program under severe NCAA sanctions. He was 35-21 at Tennessee and USC and 5-15 with the Raiders. He landed all three head-coaching jobs before the age of 35.Kiffin has some ties to the Florida area. His father, Monte Kiffin, was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator for 13 years from 1996 to 2008, and Lane Kiffin was on the Jacksonville Jaguars staff for a season in 2000. ' ' '

It just brings that sense of comfort to the team and gives you a jumpstart for the whole Series. The team with home field has won the World Series six of the last seven times and 24 of the past 30.Clevelands Corey Kluber pitched a 1-2-3 second inning for the win, and Zach Britton induced Nolan Arenados game-ending, double-play grounder for the save as the AL cut its deficit to 43-42 with two ties. The NL has outscored the AL overall, 360-359.Ortiz wore spikes with gold-colored bottoms and matching batting gloves to mark his 10th All-Star selection and delivered the AL batting order to umpires at home plate. He gave a pregame pep talk to his teammates, hit a smash down the first-base line that Anthony Rizzo snagged to rob him of a potential RBI double in the first and walked against Jose Fernandez in the third. When Edwin Encarnacion came out to pinch run for him, Ortiz waved to the crowd and then spent his AL teammates came out of the dugout to exchange hugs as the crowd of 42,386 rose in tribute.I was supposed to hit a home run in my second at-bat. My boy told me he was going to throw me a fastball, and the first pitch was a changeup, Ortiz said. Then 3-2 he threw me a slider and Im like, `Are you trying to break my back? But he said it was the catchers fault.Fernandez admitted, I couldnt believe that I was actually pitching to him. We both looked at each other and smiled. He signed the jersey I brought for him, the 23-year-old Miami Marlins ace said. The All-Star Game returned to San Diego for the first time since 1992 at Jack Murphy Stadium. Just before this first pitch, commissioner Rob Manfred joined Rod Carew, his family and the family of late Padres great Tony Gwynn and named the batting titles after the two Hall of Famers, giving Gwynn the NL honor and Carew the AL championship.Gwynn died of salivary gland cancer two years ago at age 54.Sailors dressed in white lined the foul lines and outfield warning tracks for the national anthems. All lives matter to the great, and one held up a sign reading All Lives Matter.Randy Jones threw out the ceremonial first pitch and former Padres All-Star closer Trevor Hoffman helped open, bringing the game ball to the mound from the bullpen accompanied by AC/DCs Hells Bells. With an NL ballpark hosting for the second year in a row in a streak of at least four, the AL wore white uniforms, hit last and used the Padres clubhouse on the first-base side. Ball boys in retro-style mustard-and-mud Padres uniforms lent a San Diego feel to Petco, which opened in 2004.There was a home run on the games fourth pitch for the second straight year; Bryant connected on a 96 mph Chris Sale fastball with two outs as hitters swung early in the count to beat the shadows creeping in from the left-field corner in the late-afternoon start.Bryant was part of an all-Cubs infield -- the first starting infield quartet from a single team since the 1963 St. Louis Cardinals.I think a lot of us were looking first pitch, said Bryant, who played college ball for the University of San Diego. A lot of pitchers are coming into the game trying to light up the radar gun a bit. That was the highlight for the NL Central-leading Cubs, whose fan base was pumped up by a fast start and dreams of the teams first title since 1908.Mike Trout, the All-Star MVP in 2014 and `15, singled in the first for a five-All-Star Game hitting streak -- only Mickey Mantle, Joe Morgan and Dave Winfield (seven each) and Stan Musial, Willie Mays and Nellie Fox (six apiece) strung together more. The lead was short-lived, with Hosmer and Perez going deep for a 3-1 lead in the second, sandwiched around Mookie Betts single. Cueto was hard to miss in the center of the field, wearing lime green and orange spikes. This morning I got up and didnt feel well. That is not an excuse, Cueto said. I just left two pitches up, and that was the story.Hosmer, the first Kansas City player to homer in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson in 1989, made it 4-1 in the third against Fernandez with a one-hopper off Bryants left arm that bounced into left field for an RBI single. MONTREAL -- It wont take long for Thomas Vanek to get his first taste of the heated Montreal Canadiens-Boston Bruins rivalry. Air Jordan 27 Sale . The 30-year-old acquired by Montreal at last weeks NHL trade deadline will play his first home game at the Bell Centre against the Bruins on Wednesday night. "Rivalries are for the fans," Vanek said Tuesday. "Theyre good for the league, but for us in here, and Im sure its the same as everywhere. Its just about winning the two points. "But Im sure the atmosphere will be great and I cant wait to experience it." Vanek has a reputation as a Bruins killer, with 61 points in 53 career games against Boston. So the acquisition of the high-scoring forward by Montreal gave an added jolt to the rivalry. But the Austrian winger said there are no secrets about how to score on the Bruins. "Numbers are numbers," he said. "Sometimes theyre overblown. "I dont prepare any different. Its just another game, really. Theyre a good team and youve got to be ready. The last four or five years, Boston has been one of the better teams in the league and you want to play your best against the best teams." The Canadiens are 2-0-0 against Boston this season and have won their last five meetings. But the Bruins (42-17-5) hold a comfortable 12-point lead over Montreal (35-24-7) in the Atlantic Division standings. Vanek was acquired while the Canadiens were on a four-game west coast road trip. So he didnt get in a full practice with his new team until it returned to Montreal. He was held without a point in his first two games with Montreal while playing on the second line with centre Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta. Some feel he would do better on a more attack-oriented unit, as Plekanec is considered the clubs top defensive centre even if he can also contribute offensively. "Weve got to be good in our own zone and Plekanec is very good in all zones," said Vanek. "He can make plays. Hes great in faceoffs, great defensively, but at the same time, were expected to produce. "At least thats what Im expecting of myself." Coach Michel Therrien plans to keep the line together, at least for now. "It takes time for players to adapt to new teammates," said Therrien. "I want to be patient. I think that combination can work." Tuesdays session, which lasted more than an hour at the Bell Centre, saw goalie Carey Price take part in a full practice for the first time since leading Canada to gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Price aggravated a suspected groin injury in his first practice after the Sochi Games. Therrien said Price wont dress for the Boston game but will be re-evaluated at the end of the week. That opens the possibility of playing Saturday at home against Ottawa. Therrien also said Francis Bouillon, who has sat out the last seven games, will play. Montreal is hurting on defence with veteran Josh Gorges out at least four weeks with a fractured left hand. Gorges was hurt while blocking a shot during a 4-3 win over Toronto on March 1. He played the first two games of Montreals road trip but then was sent home to have his hand re-examined. Gorges said the original fracture was considered stable, so he could continue playing. But something happened during a win in Anaheim that made it unstable. "At that point, they felt it was best to get it fixed," he said. "Potentially, it might not have been able to heal at all so they decided to have it fixed now and have me back ready by the end of the year." He said playing through the injury was difficult, but possible. "I was able to do what I needed to contribute," he said. "Certain aspects were tough. "Grabbing my stick. Grabbing the puck if I needed to clear it on the penalty kill. But I was still able to make passes, receive passes. As long as I wasnt hurting the team, I was able to go." Air Jordan 14 Sale . LAWRENCE, Kan. Spencer Haywood Jersey . -- Canadian Andrew Wiggins exacted a little bit of revenge on Texas. So did the rest of the Kansas Jayhawks. On the eve of his 19th birthday, the freshman from Vaughan, Ont., put on a dazzling display of outside shooting and rim-rattling dunks. Wiggins finished with 21 points to lead the eighth-ranked Jayhawks to an 85-54 rout of No. 19 Texas, helping them seize control of the Big 12 race. It was a far different outcome than the first time the teams met, three weeks ago in Austin. Texas rolled to an 81-69 victory, and Wiggins managed seven points on 2-for-12 shooting. "We wanted to come out aggressive," Wiggins said. "Last time we got embarrassed at their place. We wanted to do the same thing to them, win every minute of every possession." They just about accomplished it. Joel Embiid added 13 points, seven rebounds and six blocks for the Jayhawks (21-6, 12-2), who lead the league race by three games with four to play. Kansas can wrap up at least a share of its 10th straight title when Oklahoma visits Allen Fieldhouse on Monday night. "That was our first goal to start the year off, to win a 10th straight Big 12 championship," said Frank Mason, who had 14 points off the bench. "Thats still our goal." Jonathan Holmes scored 17 points and Cameron Ridley had 11 for Texas, but they were about the only guys wearing burnt orange who seemed to solve the Jayhawks gritty man-to-man defence. Freshman guard Isaiah Taylor was held to just five points on 1-for-14 shooting, while Javan Felix was 2 of 9 from the field and finished with six points. "I talk about our guys not being as tough as wed like them to be, which were not, but they are prideful," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "Texas whipped us down there the first time. I said all along this game wasnt about the league race as much as it was playing Texas." The game actually played out in similar fashion to the first meeting, only this time it was Kansas that played flawlessly and Texas that looked like a mess. After the Longhorns jumped out to an 8-3 lead, they managed just one field goal over an 11-minute stretch as the Jayhawks launched a 32-5 run that put the game away. "They were really good, obviously, and you got to know after we played as well as we played against them the first time they were going to be ready to play," Texas coach Rick Barnes said. Wiggins led the way for Kansas, at one point scoring 12 points during a particularly brutal 14-0 spurt. He did it in dazzling fashion, too: There was the soaring fast-break dunk, the back-to-back 3-pointers, and the alley-oop jam off a pass from Wayne Selden Jr. that left the crowd roaring so loudly that the field house floor was shaking. "When I score early, it brings a lot of confidence to my game, especially when I hit a 3. I get on fire," Wiggins said. "My teammates did a good job of getting me the ball." By the time Connor Lammert finally hit a 3-pointer with about 5 minutes left in the half, the lead had ballooned to 28-13 and the Longhorns had exhausted nearly all their timeouts. "It can get away from you quick," Holmes said. "One or two possessions, you can look and youre down by six, eight and then 10 and then the game is over pretty much after that." Just how bad were the Longhorns in the first half? Try 6 of 29 from the field and 5 of 12 from the foul line, with five turnovers and three assists. They were dominated on the boards, dominated in the paint and, well, dominated just about everywhere else, too. Taylor, who had 23 points in the first meeting with Kansas, was 0 for 10 from the field as the Jayhawks built a 46-18 halftime advantage. And even when Texas managed to score -- as it did out of the break -- Kansas often answered with two buckets in return. It kept going like that throughout the second half as the Jayhawks outscored Texas 26-0 in transition and 38-22 in the paint, allowing them to empty their bench early. "I think we should give a refund to the fans," Barnes said. "Topeka YMCA probably would have given them a little better game, because we didnt give them a good game at all." Harvey was supposed to throw off a slope for the first time Tuesday but he was told last week while working out at the Mets complex in Port St. Lucie, Florida, that the plan was being scrapped. "A little surprised," Harvey said before the Mets played the Milwaukee Brewers. "We kind of had that plan written up for quite some time and to hear four or five days before Im making a milestone is a little disappointing." New York general manager Sandy Alderson said there is nothing wrong with Harvey. In fact the 25-year-olds recovery might have been going too well. "I think the realization that as we transition from long tossing to throwing off a slope that we were moving sort of inexorably to a conclusion that we wanted to avoid, which is pitching too soon," Alderson said. "After talking with our doctors it made sense to slow him down a little bit." In a season in which Tommy John surgery has become a near epidemic -- 22 pitchers had the operation so far, according to data provided from STATS via writer Jon Roegele -- the Mets are basing their timetable for Harveys return on a growing amount of data that shows pitchers have morre success if they dont return before 11 months from the date of surgery. Flames Jerseys 2021. Harvey had his operation on Oct. 22. "Thats about the last week in September," Alderson said of the target date. "Thats a very narrow window to try to hit from our standpoint." Manager Terry Collins, who was given a vote of confidence from Alderson with the Mets on a six-game skid, said he wouldnt expect Harvey to pitch for New York in the final week of the season unless the team was in contention. Harvey had been set on returning this season but understands the decision is out of his hands. "I think Im coming to realize that I cant write myself in the lineup is becoming more realistic," Harvey said. "Im the one throwing the baseball. I havent had one pinch of pain. I can only express how good I feel and how ready I personally feel." Harvey will continue to long toss from 120 feet -- sometimes 150 -- and throw off flat ground for the time being. Alderson said a new plan has not yet been finalized. Alderson, meanwhile, met with Collins after the team returned from an 11-game road trip a season-high seven games under .500 at 28-35 because he felt there was too much talk about Collins status in the media. "Every time we lose a few games in a row, theres speculation about somebody taking a fall and thats simply not the way to approach a long season," Alderson said. ' ' '

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Air Max 270 React Noir Et Blanc Pas Cher . - The Jacksonville Jaguars have identified another building block in their reconstruction project.Nose tackle Roy Miller signed a four-year contract extension worth $16.2 million Tuesday, giving the Jaguars (2-12) two long-term pieces along their defensive front.Averaging 34 snaps a game this season, Miller has 30 tackles and a sack in his sixth season. The run-stuffing lineman spent four years in Tampa Bay before signing a two-year deal with Jacksonville in 2013.Miller was near tears as teammates congratulated him in the locker room. Its surreal, Miller said. Those type of things change your life, your familys life. You cant ask for anything better than that. The 27-year-old Miller has 211 tackles and four sacks in his NFL career. With Miller and fellow defensive tackle SenDerrick Marks, the Jaguars believe they have two centerpieces to build around on defence. Marks signed a four-year extension worth $22 million, including $8 million guaranteed, last December.Miller played through a nagging shoulder injury last season and eventually needed surgery. The Jaguars named him the Ed Block Courage Award winner this year. The award is presented each season to one player on every team for courage and dedication in returning from injury or illness. Its been a journey, Miller said. Ive been fighting for a long time. Fought last year and went through a lot of things. Just to go through all that and to be here today and being able to say Im going to be here for the next four years, thats an amazing feeling. As Miller was answering questions in the locker room, Marks stopped by and yelled dinners on Roy tonight.A few minutes later, Marks lauded the signing. Its big for Roy, for us and our team, Marks said. When the balls run to Roy, he cuts off the whole side by himself. For us, its huge because first and second down is so important to get us to third down. If you have guys on the field that can stop the run, it makes it better for us on third down. It shows that theyre committed. If you come in and put in the work, youll be rewarded. A lot of guys, thats what motivates them and thats the point they want to get to.The Jaguars have the NFLs youngest roster, a mixture of mostly first- and second-year players that general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley believe will grow together and become more competitive down the road.Miller welcomed being part of the rebuilding process.Everybody around the league, everybody on this team feels this culture, feels where this team is going, he said. I definitely do and I want to be a part of it. Im just excited that they extended that offer to me so I can stay out here. Got a lot of young players that Im excited to play with, a physical defensive line. I just couldnt be any happier. MONTREAL -- Denis Brodeur, the father of star goalie Martin Brodeur who enjoyed a lengthy career as one of Canadas most successful sports photographers, has died at age 82. Supersonics Jerseys China . He shot the Montreal Canadiens for several decades, first as a newspaper man and then as the teams official photographer. Brodeur was one of two photographers to capture the iconic image of Paul Henderson celebrating the winning goal of the 1972 Canada-Soviet summit series. In 2006, he sold his archive of 110,000 photos to the National Hockey League for US$350,000. "My sympathies to the family of Denis Brodeur, the celebrated photographer who helped so many Canadians discover hockey," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a French-language message on social media. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also expressed his condolences. "Denis Brodeurs images brought the action, the drama and the passion of the game sharply into focus for generations of fans around the world," Bettman said in a statement. Fellow photographers reminisced Thursday about a gentlemanly colleague who went out of his way to help others. "In a cut-throat business, he was a true class act," said Ryan Remiorz, a photographer for The Canadian Press who first met Brodeur while shooting Montreal Expos games in 1979. He said his veteran colleague was always willing to share advice or help with organizing logistics. "He was already a legend before I showed up." The elder Brodeurs career extended beyond hockey. He was also the official photographer for the Montreal Expos and shot numerous local sporting events and pro wrestling, sometimes bringing his children along with him. He would also bring his family to Florida every year for spring training. They made the lengthy drive down to Florida because Mireille Brodeur, Martins mother, didnt like flying. In Florida, the family would rent a motel room. Photographers recalled visits to that motel, where Denis would set up a makeshift darkroom and Mireille cooked for the family on a hot plate. The Brodeurs close-knit relationship included rare family bonds, on and off the ice. Before his media career, Denis Brodeur was also a goalie who won an Olympic medal, like his son. He backstopped the Canadian team that won the bronze at the 1956 Cortina dAmpezzo games. The younger Brodeur had the words "Cortina dAmpezzo 1956," and "Salt Lake City 2002," inscribed on his New Jersey Devils mask in honour of the father-son Olympic medals. As for photography he had another son, Claude, who followed him into that profession. In later years, a beaming Denis Brodeur would be on the ice, celebrating several Stanley Cup victories with his son while his longtime colleagues snapped pictures of the moment. "The entire New Jersey Devils organization is tremendously saddened by the loss of Denis Brodeur, Sr. The Brodeurs have been part of the Devils family for over 23 years," Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement. "Denis proudly dedicated his life, on and off the ice, to the game of hockey and for that he will be fondly remembered. Our thoughts and prayers, right now, are with Martin and his family." His grandson is also a goalie in the Devils system. "Sad, sad day," tweeted Anthony Brodeur, who was drafted this year. "Miss you so much already Grandpapa. Rest In Peace. Je taime." A former Montreal Canadiens general manager said Brodeur had a unique bond with the players. "The difference was that he played the game," said Rejean Houle, a former Habs forward and team executive. "He won the Allan Cup, the highest honour in senior hockey in the country, and he played at the Olympics. So he went through what we went through when we were players so he wasnt just a photographer, he was like a colleague, he was part of the boys." Rashard Lewis Jersey . SACRAMENTO, Calif. Alex English Jersey . -- Fourth-quarter comebacks have been common for the Sacramento Kings this season. The one Tuesday night was different, though, because they finally won. DeMarcus Cousins had 27 points and 12 rebounds to help Sacramento rally for a 107-104 victory over the Phoenix Suns. The Kings, who outscored Phoenix 25-16 in the fourth, scored the final 10 points of the game in a run that was aided by three straight Suns turnovers in the closing minutes as Sacramento halted a two-game skid. The teams play again Wednesday night in Phoenix. "I never say, Wait until the fourth quarter. We have to give a much more consistent effort," Kings coach Michael Malone said. "I cant figure us out at times. Were first in the league in fewest turnovers, but weve had games recently where we look like the Keystone Cops. That needs to be cleaned up, especially going into their house tomorrow. Overall, the Kings have had little to feel good about early this season. Despite a favourable schedule with a number of home games, they dropped seven of eight after defeating Denver in the opener. Selfish play on offence, combined with a lack of defensive effort and overall hustle, has typified the Kings thus far. But that wasnt the case in the fourth quarter when Sacramento forced six turnovers and limited the Suns to 32 per cent shooting. "Everybody was doing whatever it took to win this game," said reserve guard Isaiah Thomas, who scored nine of his 19 points in the fourth, including two huge free throws. "A win like this builds confidence that we can be a good defensive team. This is a positive step forward for us." It was definitely a positive step forward for rookie Ben McLemore. He made four 3-pointers and had a season-high 19 points. That was six more points than he had combined in his previous three starts since replacing Marcus Thornton at shooting guard. "I just wanted to come out and stay aggressive," said McLemore, who also had five rebounds and a block in a season-high 34 minutes. "My teammates and our coaching staff has confidence and told me to just keep shooting. Even after I missed shots tonight, I kept shooting. Im a shooter; thats what I do." Cousins was dominant inside for much of the game, even though his left shoulder popped out of place in the second quarter and bothered him slightly for the rest of the night. The Kings physical centre shot 9 of 18 and added four steals, three assists and two blocks. "After a few pain pills my adrenaline got going and it kind of went away, but it will really be hurting tomorrow," Cousins said, adding the shoulder wasnt separated. Greivis Vasquez had 11 points and Patrick Patterson 10 for the Kings. Gerald Green scored 23 points and Marcus Morris had 19 for the Suns, who lost their third straight and dropped to 1-4 on the road. Phoenix had 16 turnovers and was outrebounded 48-31. Archie Goodwin scored 16 and Goran Dragic had 10 points and eight assists with seven turnovers. "The way we play (up tempo), were going to have some turnovers," said Channing Frye, who had 17 points and nine rebounds. "But theres a difference between good turnovers and bad turnovers. And tonight we had too many bad turnovers." Morris missed a corner 3-pointer and Cousins grabbed the rebound and made one of two free throws with just under a second left to preserve the victory. Phoenixs five losses this season are by a total of 16 points. "That one was the worst of them all," coach Jeff Hornacek said. "You cant go down to the end of the game and have five or six straight turnovers. We were just not taking care of the ball. They run the plays. They dont run them the right way and then we turn it over. Give them credit, they stuck in there." Travis Outlaw tied the score with a jumper and Thomas followed with two free throws to put the Kings ahead 106-104 with 30.4 seconds left. It was Sacramentos first lead since early in the second quarter. With the Kings trailing by seven, Thomas made two free throws and Cousins had a three-point play to cut the Suns lead to 104-102. Phoenix played without starting point guard Eric Bledsoe, who bruised his left shin in practice this week. Bledsoe leads the team in scoring (20.4) and assists (6.8). After the Kings tied the score at 97, Frye made a putback to put the Suns ahead. Dragic followed with a runner and Greens 3-pointer off a fast break extended the lead to 104-97. The Kings made three 3-pointers early in the third quarter, and the final one by Jimmer Fredette cut the Phoenix lead to 95-93 with 7:42 left in the fourth. Green scored 11 points in the third quarter when the Suns stretched the lead to 14 on several occasions. But McLemore hit two 3s and had 11 points for the Kings, who closed the gap to 88-82 heading into the fourth. Morris scored 14 points and Goodwin had 12 to help Phoenix take a 62-54 lead into halftime. The Suns shot 54 per cent and made 17 of 22 free throws in the opening half. NOTES: Hornacek was called for a technical midway through the first quarter. ... Thomas scored in double figures off the bench for the 10th straight game to start the season, establishing a franchise record that he previously shared with Walt Williams. ... Goodwin stole a pass and dunked at the other end to conclude a 10-0 run for the Suns to open the second quarter. ... McLemore made two 3s and had eight first-quarter points. In his previous three starts, McLemore shot 5 of 20 and had 14 total points. ... The champions have now scored 15 goals in three straight wins over Tottenham.Southampton stayed a point behind in third after scoring five times in the final 27 minutes against imploding Sunderland, narrowly missing out on equaling the record margin of victory in the Premier League held by Manchester United from its 9-0 win over Ipswich in 1995.Im still a little bit in shock, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman said. Within a minute, though, Palace also lost a player as defender Damien Delaney was given a second booking after bringing down Loic Remy.Fabregas added the second in the 51st with his first league goal in Chelsea colours, before Frazier Campbell netted a 90th-minute consolation. My team had a fantastic performance, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. Last year, two plays by Pavel Datsyuk squared off for the title. This year, its Tomas Tatar against teammate Gustav Nyquist. Tatar made the final on a play where he eliminated his defenders by running them clean into one another. Streaking over the blue line, Tatar feels a pair of Dallas defenders closing in on him. As Brenden Dillon moves in for the big hit, Tatar hesitates and the Stars d-man catches teammate Cameron Gaunce square on, sending both players flying. Tatar resumes his drive and finishes with a nifty backhand shovel that goes off Kari Lehtonen and in. Nyquist breaks in one-on-one against Matt Carle and the Lightning defender appears initially to do enough to prevent a goal, drawing a penalty in the process. Canadas other group game is against the Netherlands on June 15 in Montreal.Herdman said his only regret was that Canada and New Zealand wont meet in the first game of the tournament.Theres only two groups of women Ive coached in my career and its that New Zealand team and that Canadian team, said the Englishman. New Zealand, I know those players, I know that team, Ive watched them evolve.Their teams peaking in their average age. Theyre actually at their peak now, so if any tournament theyre going to be successful it will be this one — but not at our expense.Herdman has been in charge of Canada since 2011 following a miserable performance at the World Cup, and led the team to a memorable bronze-medal finish at the London Olympics just a year later.New Zealand head coach Tony Readings knows Herdman from their time together with that countrys national program and said they shared a chuckle about the draw.We spoke about it before, said Readings, who was also in Gatineau. We said it was meant to be that we would play against each other in the group. He said, I told you so. Were looking forward to it. It will be a great game.I know him well. I know some of his tactics. Im sure I dont know them all, but he doesnt know all of ours.Canada is currently ranked eighth in the world, followed by China (No. 14), the Netherlands (No. 15) and New Zealand (No. 19).While there was a lot of talk about the game against Herdmans old team, Canadian defender Rhian Wilkinson said the focus has to be on all three matches in Group A.I think it will be a bit of an emotional game for (Herdman), she said. For us its just the second team well be playing.Added Kyle: There will be just as much prep for the New Zealand game as there will be for China and the Netherlands. For the Canadian players, Saturdays draw came as somewhat of a relief, as well as another big step towards a tournament that is now only six months away.Im just excited to have it done with. Its exciting to know who we have now, said Wilkinson. Weve talked about Canada 2015. Weve talked about this tournament coming and now all of a sudden its right around the corner and this draw is really what cements it.Its game on.———Follow @JClipperton_CP on Twitter. The Dallas Stars arent going to press their 31-year-old forward for an answer, either. Peverley said Tuesday he would have to undergo testing that would include workouts to elevate his heart rate. "Im not sure where that will be," Peverley said before he and his teammates scattered for the summer after a first-round playoff loss to Anaheim. "That will have to be the first thing." Coach Lindy Ruff and general manager Jim Nill said all decisions would be up to Peverley and his doctors. Training camp is about five months away. "Thats a situation I look back on and thats totally in Richs hands -- Richs hands and the doctors hands," Ruff said. "Sometimes I look at it that its in Gods hands too." "Just being able to help out with the team somehow, it felt like I was accomplishing something," Peverley said. The Stars acquired Peverley and leading scorer Tyler Seguin from Boston in an off-season trade. Peverley has a year left on his contract. "Well wait for the doctors," Nill said. "Theyve got medical things they have to take care of. Once we kind of figure that out, I think well sit down with Rich and kind of decide the game plan moving forward from there." ' ' '

Swisher underwent surgery on both knees Wednesday, procedures the first baseman/outfielder hopes will alleviate pain and prolong his career. The Indians said Swishers surgery was in Los Angeles. Hell need 8 to 10 weeks to recover and is expected to make a full recovery. Indians manager Terry Francona is certain Swisher will do everything he can to get back. "Hell be real motivated and regardless of how much money youve made or whatever, guys want to be good players," Francona said in Minnesota. "Theres a lot of pride. Hes going to have his work cut out for him this winter but hes getting a head start on it, which is good, and so the majority of his winter will be maybe almost normal, because you get the rehab out of the way the next six weeks and have a pretty decent winter." After Indians team physician, Dr. Richard Parker, recommended surgery, Swisher got a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who is on the Dodgers medical staff. Before he was sidelined, Swisher was batting .208 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 97 games. Francona moved him off first base to see if that would reduce the pain. "I actually think playing the outfield was easier," Francona said. "Youre not starting and stopping. Its a weird thing because there were days when hed come in and hed feel great. And then it kind of grabbed him when we were in New York. To be honest, until you get in there you dont know. You kind of go on symptoms and how the player says he feels. " Last season, Swisher batted .246 -- his lowest average since 2008 -- and hit 22 homers with 63 RBIs, a career-low. Despite the drop-off, Swisher is one of just two AL players to hit at least 20 homers in each of the past nine seasons. The Indians have managed to stay in the playoff chase without Swisher.
